Juniors Lead The Way
Thought you might be interested in an update on how our junior activities are going.
Currently we regularly have 6 juniors - aged 8 - 13 - attending a Monday afternoon coaching session. And to be truthful this is the most we can reasonably handle with just 2 tables! If only we had more.... tables and juniors that is! Sessions are led by Ian McElwee and Graham Turner, both of whom also help at other coaching sessions elsewhere - Ian at St Johns School; and Graham at Anfield Sports & Community Centre and Formby Table Tennis Centre. By attending these other sessions the coaches are also picking up tips from other experienced coaches which they are then able to share with our juniors!
The great news is that all 6 are really progressing well. And two, Euan & Finn Mason, have already tasted a few matches in the main Liverpool league. It is really encouraging to see the progress these youngsters are making.
4 of our juniors are now regularly playing in the L&DTTL Junior Development Division. The JDD is played on a Monday evening at the Anfield Sports Centre, a tremendous facility for table tennis. Unfortunately 1 of the 4 is playing for a rival team, but the most important thing is that they are playing. The Bath Street boys, Euan & Finn Mason and Hugh Frediani-Bellis play under the banner of Crosby High C in this competition, and at the present moment sit at the top of the U13 table. There are 6 teams in the U13 division, 3 of them under the Crosby High banner. All 3 boys have really played well, especially Hugh who only started playing table tennis in October last. You can follow progress of the team on the TT365 website at https://www.tabletennis365.com/LiverpoolJunior . Below is the official Liverpool League picture of the team, with Finn, Hugh, and Euan.
Please do everything you can to encourage our own juniors, maybe even giving up an hour one Monday afternoon to come and play so that they can see different styles and qualities.....
