Summer League
Following from successful participation in the North Liverpool 2 x 2 Table Tennis League the Club decided to, once again, organise and operate its own Summer League based on the same format. Sue Young took up the reigns to organise the Marine Mini Summer League (MMSL) and enlisted 22 club members to take part. Such a large number enabled 7 teams to be formed, with each team having a minimum of 3 players. The main criteria being that participants should have little or no experience of playing regular table tennis in a main league competition, such as the Liverpool & District Table Tennis League. This encouraged mostly 'social' players to take part, with the total number of players being 12 men, 8 women and 2 juniors. A great mix!

The Action
The format of the MMSL is a match consisting of 5 sets, 4 singles and 1 doubles with 2 players playing for each team. Details of all the matches played in both the League and the Knock-Out Cup can be found from the club website under the tab 'League'. This includes match results, individual player performance and tables. It is the short format of matches that makes this form of table tennis so attractive, with matches typically lasting around 1.25 hours. Leaving plenty of time for an evening social life! If you haven't looked at the results, tables and performances previously do take a look now. You will see some great action and brilliant performances.
This is the second year that the club has operated such a summer league, and the interesting fact is that on both occasions one team has won both the mini league and cup competitions! In 2025 the successful team was Team 6 - LBP, Liz Neild, Bobby Blair and Phil Curran. A great effort by them, coming through all of their matches undefeated! In 2024 this team finished 5th - they have really worked hard to improve over the last 12 months.
Below is a short video summarizing in pictures the MMSL 2025. Do take a look.
