A great day out!
“What a great day out”, said club member Andrew Armstrong about his visit to London on Saturday 25 October to watch top class table tennis at the WTT Star Contender 2025 at the Copper Box arena. The tournament which ran over the period 21 – 26 October 2025 attracted top-class table tennis players from around the world with prize money of US $300,000 up for grabs. Star Contenders are part of the World Table Tennis Series and attract some of the best players from around the world as they seek ranking points to progress to the top-tier WTT Champions and Grand Smash Events.
The scene is set, the No.1 table area at the Copper Box, Stratford, London. Getting ready for the days play.

Asked what were the highlights of his day, Andrew says, “there were so many! Seeing the quality of top players, being able to join with table tennis fans from all over the country and watching the finals of the ladies doubles. Also, as a new umpire, I was able to watch more experienced umpires from around the world, including our very own Tom Purcell, and see exactly how they managed these top-level matches and international players – and without the aid of VAR! There was some fantastic table tennis and seeing it close up in the magnificent setting of the Copper Box arena was a top experience. I would recommend any table tennis enthusiast, if they have a chance, to put their bat down for a day and get along to any future international event held in this country if they can, as it is a real eye opener to table tennis at its best”.
It seems Andrew had a great day out. Here are a few pictures, some from Andrew and some official pictures. You can find out more about the event from the Table Tennis England website and from the World Table Tennis website.
