1st Team Through!
The first week of October saw the start of the respective Divisional Cup competitions in the Liverpool & District Table Tennis League. There were matches scheduled in each of the five cup competitions, but for the club just 1 team was in action in this Preliminary Round.
The Action
The action for the club this week was in the Readman Cup the trophy for Div 1. This involved the club's 1st team, comprising Colin Turner (Captain), Clare Peers and Barry Elliott. And, as you might expect, being a division 1 match featured some top class table tennis. Their opponents at Marine were Crosby High C, Ian Felton, Steve Collins & Lawrence Phillips. At the early stage of the season the Crosby High side sat at 4th in the Div 1 table and the BSM 1st Team at 7th, so this was a very good match up, with both sides fairly evenly match and both looking for advancement to the Quarter Final round.
The match started well for the visitors with hard fought wins for both Ian Felton and Lawrence Phillips. For a moment it looked as if it might be an early night for all, but the BSM team fought back with 2 wins for Clare, 2 wins for Barry and one for Colin. Some really good games leaving the shell-shocked Crosby High team facing a 5:2 defeat and exit from the competition. The chances are the club will face another Crosby High side in the next round!

The good news is, the Club will have all of its teams in action in the next round of the competition in November!
